Photonics of time-varying media

چکیده
Time-varying media have recently emerged as a new paradigm for wave manipulation, due to the synergy between discovery of highly nonlinear materials, such epsilon-near-zero and quest applications, magnet-free nonreciprocity, multimode light shaping, ultrafast switching. In this review, we provide comprehensive discussion recent progress achieved with photonic metamaterials whose properties stem from their modulation in time. We review basic concepts underpinning temporal switching its relation spatial scattering deploy resulting insight time-crystals emergent research avenues, topological non-Hermitian physics. then extend our account spatiotemporal applications synthetic motion, giant anisotropy, amplification, many other effects. Finally, conclude most attractive experimental avenues demonstrated few perspectives on emerging trends future implementations time-modulation photonics.
